Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about epoxy & polyaspartic concrete coatings, from prep to long-term care.

Service Area: Sauk Valley & Northern Illinois — Sterling, Rock Falls, Dixon, Morrison, Rochelle, Byron, Oregon, Freeport, and the Rockford metro — plus the greater Quad Cities area.

General

What types of floors do you install?

Flake (chip) systems, metallic epoxy, quartz broadcast, solid-color epoxy/polyaspartic, wood-look epoxy, and custom logos/inlays. We tailor build, traction, and sheen to the space.

How long does installation take?

Most residential projects wrap in 1–2 days; larger or specialty designs can take 2–3 days. Cure times vary by system and temperature—foot traffic is often within 24 hours; vehicle traffic may be 48–72 hours or per the product spec.

Who does the work?

Owner Sean leads each project. He’s installed floor coverings and concrete coatings in Northern Illinois for 25+ years, and stays current through national trainings and collaborations with epoxy pros across the U.S.

Do you do commercial and residential?

Yes. Homes, garages, basements, patios, and pool decks; plus shops, warehouses, retail, healthcare, restaurants, and offices.

Installation & Prep

What surface prep do you perform?

Mechanical prep matched to the system: dust-controlled diamond grinding (and shot blasting when needed), crack chasing, joint filling, and patching of pits/spalls for a clean, profiled slab and strong bond.

Can you coat new concrete?

Yes—after the concrete has sufficiently cured. As a rule of thumb, we prefer ~28 days minimum and will evaluate moisture and surface condition before coating.

What about moisture issues?

We can perform moisture evaluation and, when required, install a vapor-mitigation primer/system designed for elevated moisture. Addressing moisture up front prevents bond failures.

Do you fill cracks and control joints?

Non-structural cracks are repaired as part of prep. Active control/expansion joints are typically honored or filled with a flexible material based on use; we’ll recommend the right approach after inspection.

Is the prep dusty or noisy?

Grinding is loud, but our equipment uses dust control to keep the space clean. We protect adjacent areas and tidy up when finished.

Performance & Options

Is it slippery?

We can add anti-slip texture to suit the space (garages, entries, pool decks). We balance traction with cleanability based on your needs.

Will hot tires peel the coating?

Proper prep and quality materials are the best defense against hot-tire pickup. Our garage systems are engineered to resist it when installed on a correctly prepared surface.

Will the floor yellow in sunlight?

Standard epoxy can amber with UV. We specify UV-stable polyaspartic/urethane topcoats (and design choices) to keep color and gloss in sun-exposed areas.

Can you install outdoors?

Yes—patios, steps, walkways, and pool decks with UV-stable topcoats and traction tuned for weather exposure. We verify substrate and temperature windows before scheduling.

How thick is the coating?

Depends on the system and build: many residential systems finish around the 20–40 mil range (multiple coats). Quartz or heavy-duty builds can be thicker.

What colors and styles can I choose?

Hundreds of flake blends and solid colors, custom metallic effects, wood-look options, and logos/inlays. We bring samples and can match brand/RAL colors.

What temperatures can you install in?

Each product has a temperature window. We plan installs around ambient/slab temps and may adjust materials seasonally to ensure proper cure and bond.

Are there strong odors or VOCs?

We select low-odor/low-VOC options when appropriate and ventilate as needed. Any odors dissipate as the coating cures.

Care & Maintenance

How do I clean the floor?

Sweep or dust-mop regularly; damp mop with a neutral pH cleaner. Avoid harsh abrasives. Promptly wipe up chemicals or oils in garages.

How durable is it to scratches and impact?

Coatings resist abrasion and chemicals, but sharp impacts can still damage any floor. Use felt pads under furniture and avoid dragging heavy, sharp objects.

Will I ever need a re-coat?

High-wear commercial areas may benefit from a maintenance topcoat over time. We can evaluate sheen/traction and refresh when it makes sense.

What if the floor gets damaged?

Most scratches, chips, or isolated damage can be spot-repaired. Keep a note of your color blend; we’ll match as closely as possible.

Pricing, Scheduling & Policies

How much does it cost?

Pricing depends on square footage, system type, prep/repairs, and design. We provide a clear, itemized quote after an on-site assessment.

What’s the lead time?

Lead times vary with season and project size. We respond to estimate requests quickly and schedule as soon as materials and temperatures align.

Do you offer a warranty?

We stand behind our workmanship and the systems we install. Warranty specifics depend on use and system; we’ll outline terms on your quote.

What do I need to do before install day?

Clear the area of personal items/vehicles. We’ll confirm any additional prep (e.g., shelving removal) during the estimate so there are no surprises.
